As a young child, I was never really one to read classic fairy tales, but even I knew the story of Red Riding Hood. As I got older, I became fascinated with these stories, and how cruel and gruesome the original tales were. This piece really plays up the dark aspect of Red Riding Hood.
Many of the stylistic elements in this piece were inspired by a psychological horror game called Fran Bow. The artists behind this game use a very traditional art style full of texture and slightly unsettling features on their characters. If I were to continue this sketch, I would love to experiment with texture as well, as I feel like this style definitely gits the overall feel of this old tale.
